Working for 100K Ideas

Happy New Year! We hope everyone had a safe, happy, and healthy holiday. As we begin the new year, many of us will take the time to evaluate goals, start new ideas, and evaluate/reflect on the current state of our work. Being an employee of 100K that was hired this past year, I have spent some time reflecting on the experience I have gained so far through my time as a student staff member.

I have been working for 100K Ideas for about four months now and my experience has been very beneficial. As 100K Ideas provides opportunities for current students to work in the fields they are studying, I am getting hands-on experience working with clients and learning even more about the career path I am pursuing. I am currently studying Graphic Design at the University of Michigan-Flint and have realized having the role as Graphic Designer here at 100K has provided so much insight and experience for me, allowing me to gain new skills I am able to take back with me to the classroom, and vice versa.

Working alongside other students my age who are studying a diverse range of skill sets, has also been a major benefit for me as I develop professionally. We often work together on projects, allowing me to learn and grow in other aspects outside of the field of Graphic Design. This is a great work environment and I have created things that I thought I would have never been able to do before.

Working in an environment where I can work with clients while still learning about my field has proven to be so helpful to me and my development as a designer. I am able to make mistakes and overcome them in a safe place and am able to learn from them. 100K Ideas is a great place to start to work with people while still learning how to be professional, work with others, and still learn about your degree.

Starting an internship, similar to what I am doing now, is one of the great ways to gain on-the-job experience, which many employers are looking for. This opportunity is going to help me in the long run, for my overall future. This job is helping me learn so much more, on top of my schooling, and really provides me solid work experience, as I move forward professionally.

Upon this reflection, I think back to the first time I heard about 100K Ideas, when I was only a high school student. When the job opportunity came up, I remembered the atmosphere of the space and decided then that this was something I wanted to do. That was one of the best decisions I have made. I am thankful for what I have gained through my 100K Ideas experience so far and cannot wait to continue to grow as my time here continues in the new year.
