Summer’s Reflection

Happy (soon to be) Labor Day! We hope everyone has a safe, happy, and healthy holiday. As we wind down from summer, I took some time to reflect on the past few months at 100K Ideas and some engagements that were able to be made within our community.

This past summer at 100K Ideas has been a busy one, packed with numerous exciting events that have given us the opportunity to showcase skills we’ve learned in our time within the organization. I was fortunate enough to attend two of these events, The Black Business Expo and Back to the Bricks, and it was a wonderful experience being able to discuss what we do and what it provides to residents of the City of Flint.

We attended the Black Business Expo Financial Empowerment Summit on July 22nd and it featured workshops, classes, and speakers discussing topics such as “How Do I Get Started”, “How to Pivot in a Pandemic”, “Show Me The Money In My Backyard”, and “Taking My Business to The NEXT LEVEL”. The event was an excellent opportunity to gain information on local resources and navigate business banking, while also providing a space for entrepreneurs to network.

Back to the Bricks, which happened the weekend of August 19th, attracts over 500,000 car show people annually to the area to celebrate their love of motor vehicles and the area’s historic role in the automotive industry. Our staff took the opportunity to join in the festivities by tabling, conducting intakes, and even getting out around the downtown area to hand out 100K promotional items. It was great to be able to spend the day discussing our goals at 100K Ideas and what the city means to us, all while soaking up the experience of the largest annual event in the City of Flint.

Both events provided me with excellent experience to sharpen both my business and people skills and I hope you’ll join us at one of 100K Ideas next events!
