Giving Back this Holiday Season

One of 100K Ideas’ missions, especially around the holidays, is giving back to our community. We are always dedicated to finding ways to continue to support those around us and this holiday season we decided to adopt a family. Being my first year at 100K Ideas, I was excited and intrigued by the opportunity, as I always enjoy giving to others in need. Parents want to be able to give their children the best Christmas but unfortunately aren’t always able to, so adopting a family was definitely something I wanted to be a part of. Working with others on our team, we began to plan this project.

We first pulled everyone on our team together to gather money for our given family. After collecting these funds, we went through our list of items and planned a budget to be able to provide as many items as possible. Then came the fun part, the shopping! I tagged along with our Program Admin., stopping by multiple stores while gathering clothing, toys, and other gifts for each individual family member. We then came back, wrapped each gift, and sent them off to the Adopt a Family center to be distributed to the family in need. Being able to spoil these kids, and even the parents, getting them items they have needed, but could not afford, was a lot of fun and meant a lot to me. We just made their Holiday season a little happier and gave the parents a sigh of relief. I love thinking about how the kids are going to react to new clothes, toys, and even books when they unwrap them. This is just one of many opportunities we have here at 100K Ideas to give back and I am glad I got the chance to share in it.

We will have the opportunity to participate in another community outreach project in February, volunteering at the Eastern Food Bank. While we are there, we will be organizing food into specific sections to hand out to families in need. This is a great way to give back by helping even more of those in need and I am excited to participate!

Although this time of year will come and go, it is important to act and participate in community engagement to help others whenever possible. Winter is one of the hardest times of year for families, making outreach projects like food drives, Adopt a Family, coat donations, etc. so important. Whether you are able to donate, volunteer, or even participate in events, every little bit helps during this time of year.

We wish everyone a safe, happy, and loving holiday season!
