• Industrial Designer

    Reports to: Director of Operations

    $15/hr | Part Time

    Job Purpose

    Work as a team leader to guide a client’s product through the development process into operations. Students are the voice of the client and are responsible for keeping the project on target, on time, and on budget.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Work with clients to refine and identify product requirements
    • Brainstorm multiple design solutions for client consideration
    • Create sketches and drawings that address client product requirements
    • Consider practicality of design solutions, i.e. safety, manufacturability, economy
    • Communicate and collaborate with product development team members to refine product ideas
    • Use computer software to design client products
    • Work with clients and internal teams to create, modify and improve CAD drawings and/or
    • prototypes
    • Research and suggest materials, colors and textures
    • Research production costs and processes for given options
    • Manage product through workflow process and report on progress issues
    • Work with clients to solve problems and close gaps in the market with their new innovative ideas
    • for a product or service
    • Research and report data regarding industry demand, benchmarks and other relevant information
    • for the client and their new business
    • Collaborate with specialist in key functions such as engineering, financial analysis, graphic design
    • and industrial design to improve client product outcomes
    • Manage outside contracts and agreements
    • Provide advice on the management of projects
    • Manage expectations and day to day communications with client
    • Fill in as needed in underserved key function duties
    • Explore and communicate use case examples and alternative approaches
    • Interact, update and collaborate with other team members

    Qualifications

    • Excellent organizational and time management skills Strong verbal and written communication
    • Management and leadership skills Analytical and creative thinking skills
    • Pursuing a degree, or certification in industrial design, architecture, or engineering Creative and artistic ability
      Strong analytical, problem solving, and mechanical skills
    • Knowledge and ability to use product design software
